
Gumbo Foundation’s Rabbit Cookoff
The sweet aroma of rabbit cooked in a variety of different ways filled the air around Washington Saturday as the Gumbo Foundation’s annual rabbit cookoff was held at Willie’s Campground. The festivities began at 10 a.m. with the singing of the National Anthem. Then close to 50 entrants began their quest to be the all around best rabbit cookoff chef. the day long event included several local bands and a live and silent auction. This year’s beneficiarywas Amy LeDoux.

Gumbo Time At The Ag Arena

Steam and enticing smells rising from over 50 carefully chosen pots filled with simmering varieties of chicken gumbo spread for several hours inside the St. Landry Parish Ag Arena Saturday.
It was definitely suitable gumbo weather, as a strong north wind cut through the openings at the facility helping create an appropriate atmosphere for the hundreds attending the 18th annual Gumbo Foundation Gumbo Cookoff.

Battle of the Paddle, Gumbo cook-off returns
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)– Do you have what it takes to win the battle for the paddle? The 17th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off, put on annually by the Gumbo Foundation will be happening this Saturday, Jan. 28.
This year, proceeds from the event will go to the family of Maddox Lawrence. Maddox is a young boy who is currently battling cancer. Maddox’s aunt says the family is extremely grateful to be the recipients of Gumbo Foundation’s generosity this year.

Around The Gumbo Cookoff – 2023
St. Landry Now walked around the Gumbo Cook-off held at the Yambilee Ag Arena on Sunday in Opelousas. Besides a lot of Gumbo, there was fun, games, face painting, people and a petting zoo.

Battle For The Paddle
Paula Mills and Dr. Ty Hargroder, cooking for the LHC Group, prepare to sample a taste of gumbo at the annual Gumbo Cook-Off held Saturday. Held in downtown Opelousas near Frank’s, is a day long fun filled event featuring local bands, auctions and of course some of the best gumbo to be found anywhere. All proceeds from the event benefits a child and family who are burdened with medical and related expenses. See photo gallery of the event at St. Landry Now.

Annual gumbo cook-off will help 3-year-old girl
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)– This Saturday, Jan. 29, the 16th annual “Battle for the Paddle” gumbo cook-off will be held in Downtown Opelousas at 521 E. Landry St. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Proceeds from year’s cook off will be used to assist three-year old Zaidee, who has Infantile Nueroaxonal Dystrophy, and her parents with her care.

St. Landry Homestead donates to The Gumbo Foundation
Each year, Homestead employees can pay $1 on Fridays to wear jeans. At the end of the year, one of our employees gets to donate the money collected to a local charity. This year, Dodi Arceneaux chose The Gumbo Foundation because of the exceptional work they do helping children battling cancer and other devasting illnesses. Here’s Dodi presenting a $3,000 check to Tim Marks of The Gumbo Foundation. Thank you Gumbo Foundation for helping those in need.
